Central City/Black Hawk – 50-minute drive

Although the population may not be large, the amount of history and experiences in this area are plentiful. Once upon a time, Central City had more money and culture than Denver. It was so influential in the region that it almost became the capital when Colorado officially achieved statehood in 1876. Today you can enjoy 6 different casinos to gamble at, spas, the Central City Opera, plenty of camping grounds and hiking trails galore. Black Hawk is a short 1.5 miles away and offers a little more hustle and bustle but provides access to Central City’s activities. Once a busy mining town, today you will discover plenty of casinos, world-class restaurants and outdoor adventures.

Boulder, Colorado – 40-minute drive

Boulder, Colorado has a great balance of urban and outdoor adventures. It is known for its food scene, breweries and mesmerizing downtown area. Shop the historic Pearl Street, have a unique afternoon tea experience at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse and explore the Boulder Museum. Looking to experience the outdoors in Boulder? Walk the miles of paved paths at the Boulder Creek Path that runs along the creek, gaze the amazing Flatirons (slanted, enormous slabs of sandstone that form Boulder’s backdrop), or, if weather permitting, try stand-up paddleboarding on the Boulder Reservoir.

Georgetown, Colorado – 50-minute drive

Located almost an hour outside of Denver, Georgetown was once the third-largest town in all of Colorado. Today, it has about 1,000 residents, a great deal of history and plenty to experience. Explore the historic sites and monuments such as the Hamill House Museum, the Hotel De Paris Museum or the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Discover the local history with a Gold Mine Tour or a Silver Queen walking tour which will open the world of local hauntings and Old West tales.
