The Pan-Pacific Festival Foundation and the Matsuri in Hawaii Committee announced the return of the Pan Pacific Festival in 2024 after a 5-year hiatus.

The very first Matsuri in Hawaii was born in 1980. The word “MATSURI” is a Japanese word meaning “FESTIVAL”. Matsuri in Hawaii was envisioned as a means to enrich the lives of both participating artists and audiences, including Hawaiʻi residents and other travelers visiting Hawaiʻi, with a rewarding and participatory exposure to traditional Japanese culture.

In 1996 Matsuri in Hawaii became known as the Pan-Pacific Festival as it broadened its capacity to include other cultures from Hawaii’s rich melting pot.

The annual All Hawaiʻi Bon Dance, the state’s largest bon dance parade group, marches down Kalākaua Avenue. All are welcome to participate.

The festival will be held in Waikiki June 7-9,2024.

According to a representative  of the PAN-PACIFIC FESTIVAL FOUNDATION:
The All Hawaii Bon Dance parade group is still in the works for Sunday, June 9 for our parade.
The bon dance festival is confirmed on Friday, June 7 (from 7:00pm – 10:00pm) during the block party on Kalakaua Avenue which is separate from the parade on June 9.
