Beginning this Summer, Southern Airways will have a new home at Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Washington Dulles is actually located in Chantilly, Virginia, but considered as a Washington, DC hub.

So what is Chantilly, VA like? Here is a sneak peek:

  • Chantilly is located in western Fairfax County in the Northern Virginia region of Virginia. During the Civil War, the Battle of Chantilly took place nearby. It is approximately 24 miles from Washington D.C.
  • The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, also called the Udvar-Hazy Center, is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s annex at Washington Dulles International Airport. Home to the Space Shuttle Discovery, The Enola Gay, and Gemini 7 Space Capsule.
  • Home to many Civil War historical sites including Sully Plantation and the Ox Hill Battlefield.
  • Plenty of nice parks for hiking and nature, including Frying Pan Farm Park. The park contains the Frying Pan Meetinghouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and dating from the 18th century, and the Old Floris Schoolhouse, constructed in 1911. One of the attractions of the park is Kidwell Farm, a working demonstration farm.

So if you are flying Southern Airways into IAD, maybe plan a day and just stay in Chantilly, Virginia!
