The largest mass of sand dunes in all of California, the Imperial Sand Dunes are located in the southeastern corner of the state. Extending more than 40 miles, the Dunes height often reaches peaks of 300 feet above the desert floor. An amazing place for off-road enthusiasts who crave adventure, outstanding scenery and adrenaline rushes. An equally amazing place for the novice looking to sample out the popular desert sports and riding equipment. The North Algodones Dunes Wilderness area of the dunes provides a more laid-back experience than the main dunes. This area of the dunes, totaling almost 26,000 acres, is off-limits to vehicular traffic due to the California Desert Protection Act.
