Nashville, Tennessee is the Capital of Tennessee.

Named for Francis Nash, a general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in 1779.

Nashville is known by many nicknames including “Music City” due to it’s huge recording and concert industry. Also, “Athens of the South” because of the many universities in the city.

Nashville is surrounded by water including the Cumberland River, Percy Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake.

Nashville has 2 major league sports teams: The Titans in the NFL, and the Nashville Predators in the NHL. They are also hosts to AAA Baseball’s Nashville Sounds.

In 2010 Nashville was devastated by what became known as the “100 Year Flood” . Since then a couple of major tornadoes have also wreaked havoc on areas of the city.

Nashville is home to a full-scale replica of the Parthenon.
